Behind the Feed

“Everyone has a chapter they don’t read out loud.” -Unknown

Another mommy blogger friend of mine, Alexie,  started a campaign called “behind the feed.” It is a campaign to demonstrate what is really happening behind the news feed of real life people. So many times we see the perfect pictures flood our screens day after day and we loose sight of what might really be happening. I’ve talked about it before (here), but I’m about to show you the nitty gritty, because I love you and want you to know you are NOT ALONE!

The video below was originally sent to just my husband to show him what kind of day I was having. But now I am sharing it with all of you, my “behind the feed.” Let me set the scene for you; I was over it. I was up to my eye balls in mom crud; the tantrums, the demands, the complaining, the list goes on…All I wanted to do was go to the bathroom ALONE. Seems like a simple request. I honestly wanted to hide in the bathroom and never come out, but I would have settled for a few minutes of peace and this is what I got (warning: you may need to turn down your sound a bit)…

Pretty awful, huh? Well, it was for me, and that video was only a short clip of the crying, screaming and banging on the door that was happening. I had to gather every bit of patience I could, leave the bathroom, take them both upstairs for bath and put them to bed. Was it pretty? Nope, not one bit. It was actually pretty ugly. Do mother’s go through this kind of thing all the time? I’m pretty sure. The reason for not always sharing these struggles is probably because most of us like to focus on the good days, the prettier moments; the hand holding, the hugging, the “I love you’s.” But these uglier days exist and can leave you feeling torn up, fed up and exhausted both mentally and physically.

So if you are having one of those ugly “behind the feed” kind of days, know you are not the first and definitely will NOT be the last. If the toys are everywhere, the dishes are piled high and you can’t find a clean shirt to save your life, hang in there! Do not let all the beautifully perfect news feeds get you down because chances are there is a lot more going on “behind the feed” (or behind the bathroom door). Keep your head up and keep on keeping on. Sending love to you because I know you might need it!

Thank you for posting this! I am about to be a first-time mom (any day now) and some days, I am truly terrified of that prospect. But when other moms are honest with me, it gives me courage; then I know that everyone makes it through those bad days 🙂

I really love hearing this! I’m about to be first-time mom (any day now) and I am so terrified of it sometimes. But when moms are honest with me, it helps. Because then I know that everyone makes it through those insane bad days 🙂

Caity, congrats on being a first time mommy!! As you read, its’ not always rainbows and butterflies, but it is also such a rewarding experience. There will be tough days, but you will make it through and sometimes you may even be able to laugh or at least learn from the trials. It’s so true! Perception is reality and we often compare our toddler tantrum moments to beautiful feeds and it can be so frustrating! I’m with ya girl! ?? Great post!
