Party Fun

A SUPER Mario Celebration

“A party without cake is just a meeting.” -Julia Child

I had dreams of planning our son’s fifth birthday party since he turned one. You may not believe me, but ask my husband, he knows I had, in my head, planned a huge fire fighter themed party. I had these lofty ideas inspired by our love of fire fighting and the help of a few Pinterest pictures I had seen for the past few years. But the big surprise came when our son announced he didn’t want a fire fighter party, instead he wanted a Super Mario themed party. I have to be honest and say I was a bit disappointed because I don’t really know much about Mario, in fact I am not a huge video game fan, but I had to remind myself that it wasn’t my party, it was for him. So I tucked all my plans away and started from scratch.

Per the birthday boys request he asked for min-golf and just a few friends, so that is exactly what we did with the help of Boomers in Irvine for all the entertainment and Oriental Trading Company for all the decor.

First, I called and reserved our date at Boomers for a round of mini-golf and a party table time designated for food and cake. They have lots of party rooms which can fit small or large parties, just know if you are a smaller party you may be sharing a room. With our particular party package for ten kids (supplied by Boomers), it included the round of mini-golf, game tokens for the kids to choose a few video games, pizza and drinks, table coverings, even balloons. Plus, they also supplied a birthday party helper once you checked in that stayed with you during your entire party to help set up, pass out food and drinks as well as help with cleaning up. This was definitely helpful to make things run very smoothly.

Second, I checked out my new favorite party supply warehouse; Oriental Trading Company. They had everything we needed to make the Super Mario party a huge success. They supplied me with invitations, paper plates, napkins, cups, candy for the favors, even an awesome backdrop to take all our pictures. I was also able to get star balloons, then my hubby drew eyes to make them look like the super stars from Mario. For favors I picked plastic eggs and covered them with dots to make yoshi eggs. We then filled them with with gold coins and other candy, which I found all on the Oriental Trading Company website.

The kids had a blast playing mini-golf and then were able to come inside and cool off while playing video games, it was the perfect mix.

Once inside our party room we had pizza, that came with our party package, then I also ordered a fruit and veggie platter, which were all very good. You are only allowed to bring in your own cake or cupcakes, no outside food, but that did makes things easier knowing I didn’t have to pack so much food.

The cupcakes and mini-cake I ordered from Ralphs and I think they did a fantastic job, especially for the amazing price!! I found the little figurines for the top of the cake on Amazon.

Overall, I think the party turned out great, it was exactly what our son wanted, so I was happy that he was happy. Thanks to Boomers for supplying us with our party package and to Oriental Trading Company for all the awesome decor. Maybe next year I’ll get to do that fire fighter party, but for now I am about to go polish off some of the leftover cupcakes!;)
